How coaching is different than Toastmasters

I was a member of Toastmasters for 4 years. Here’s what I learned:

  1. How to structure a speech

  2. How to answer questions on the fly

  3. How to stand in front of an audience without gripping the podium for dear life

Toastmasters is a great organization. I attended twice a month for 4 years. I saw that the people who do best stick with it for a long time.

What I didn’t learn is:

  • How to manage the firestorm of emotions that come up when standing in front of a crowd

  • How to stop arguing with the caustic thoughts in my head

  • How to move through the whopping vulnerability hangover you get from public speaking

Those are things I learned from coaching.

It’s why mindset is such an important part of my work.

It’s how I get clients past their overwhelming fear of saying the wrong thing, looking stupid and boring their audience to tears.

Coaching accelerates your results.

When I work with clients, we build not just a skillset, but also the mindset of confident communication. I’ve combined everything I learned in coach training, improv classes, Toastmasters and years of managing creative teams to make communication easier and more fun.

We use the work on your desk to practice:

  1. How to be clear and concise

  2. How to tell stories that capture attention

  3. How to calm your nerves and connect with your audience

  4. How to evaluate your presentations so you learn from each one
